The Silent Smear Campaign

One of the most painful things about dealing with a covert abuser is not just how they treat you behind closed doors but how they secretly paint a distorted picture of you to others.

They smile in your face

Act calm and composed in public

Seem humble or soft-spoken

And behind your back

They are planting seeds of doubt about you in every conversation

They twist stories

Exaggerate arguments

Omit key details

And present themselves as the misunderstood victim

They go to their family

Their friends

Their colleagues

And slowly, quietly, build a version of you that does not exist

A version where you are the problem

You are unstable

You are difficult

You are selfish

You are always angry

You are never satisfied

And the worst part is

You have no idea it is happening

Until one day you realise people are treating you differently

They look at you with suspicion

They pull back

They offer fake sympathy

Or worse

They side with your abuser

It is one of the most isolating parts of covert abuse

The way they silently turn people against you while maintaining a perfect image

This is not by accident

It is calculated

It is done to protect their mask

To control the narrative

To keep you cornered

So that if you ever speak up about the abuse

They have already discredited you

You begin to question yourself

You begin to feel paranoid

You wonder if you are imagining it

But deep down you know something is not right

And you are not crazy

This is a tactic

It is called the smear campaign

And it is very real

But here is the truth

You do not need to defend yourself to everyone

You do not need to chase their lies

You do not need to beg people to see your side

You stay rooted in your truth

You let Allah be your Witness

Because He sees what they say when you are not in the room

He hears every lie

He knows what is real

Your job is to stay sincere

Stay in your lane

Stay connected to Allah

Let your character speak louder than their gossip

And trust

That whatever is built on lies

Will eventually collapse

And whatever is built on truth

Will always rise

Even if it rises slowly

Let them say what they want

Your worth is not based on their version of you

Your peace is not in their hands

And your story will not end with their slander

It will end with justice

And it will end in your favour

By the permission of Allah

Ameen
