When Sadness Sits in Your Chest

Yesterday we spoke about anger. Today, let’s speak about sadness.

Sadness has a different energy. It doesn’t always shout like anger. Sometimes, it sits quietly in the chest. A heaviness. A silence. A tear that won’t fall, or one that won’t stop.

And just like anger, many of us were taught to hide it. To be strong. To carry on. To say “Alhamdulillah” with a smile, even when our heart is breaking.

But sadness is not a weakness. It is not a lack of faith. It is a part of being human.

Even the Prophet ﷺ felt deep sadness. He grieved. He cried. He missed his loved ones. He sat in silence and felt the weight of loss. And yet, he was the most beloved to Allah.

This shows us something powerful: feeling sadness does not mean you are distant from Allah. It means you have a heart that feels. A heart that has loved. A heart that is alive.

Sadness is not here to break you. It is here to soften you. To turn you inward. To bring you back to your Lord.

So let yourself feel it. Rest if you need to. Cry if it helps. Talk to Allah about every corner of your heart. Every pain. Every fear. Every piece of you that feels tired.

You don’t have to explain it to everyone. Allah knows. And that is enough.

This feeling will pass. It always does. And when it does, you will rise again, softer, stronger, and even closer to the One who never leaves.

May Allah hold every heart that feels heavy today, and fill it with His light and comfort. Ameen.
