The Evil Eye and Your Mental Wellbeing: What You Need to Know
The evil eye is real. And it’s more common than we think. In Arabic, it’s called al-‘ayn — a subtle but dangerous harm caused by jealousy, envy, or admiration that isn’t protected by dhikr. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The evil eye is real. If anything were to overtake the Divine decree, it would be the evil eye.”
(Muslim)
While many think the evil eye only affects wealth, beauty, or health, one of the most overlooked and damaging impacts is how it affects your mental and emotional wellbeing.
You may feel:
• Anxious and heavy
• Unmotivated or mentally scattered
• Emotionally foggy or disconnected from yourself
• Exhausted no matter how much you rest
• Like you are shrinking or becoming someone else
• Spiritually numb, disconnected from your heart and from Allah
• Confused, lost, and constantly second-guessing yourself
And all of this can happen while nothing looks wrong on the outside.
Why narcissists and envious people cause this harm most often:
Narcissists and spiritually toxic people often carry deep insecurity and hidden envy. They are triggered by goodness, sincerity, and light — especially when it shines through empaths.
Your ability to love purely
To forgive
To uplift
To connect with Allah
To inspire others with your strength
These are qualities that they secretly resent
Because deep down they cannot access that level of sincerity and strength
So they project their pain onto you
Through evil eye
Spiteful energy
Or hidden jealousy masked as praise
That harm enters silently
And slowly starts affecting your mind, heart, health, and spirituality
How to protect yourself
1. Recite morning and evening adhkār
They are your first layer of defence. Surah Al-Falaq and An-Nās were revealed for protection from envy, black magic, and hidden harm. Never skip these.
2. Read Ayat al-Kursi after every salah and before sleep
This is one of the strongest protections against jinn and evil forces. It’s light, powerful, and brings Divine protection to your home and soul.
3. Regularly read or play Surah Al-Baqarah
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Do not turn your houses into graves. Verily, Shaytaan does not enter the house where Surah Al-Baqarah is recited.”
(Muslim)
Reading or playing Surah Al-Baqarah in your home pushes away the influence of Shaytaan, jinn, sihr, and the evil eye. Even if you play it once every 3 days, it makes a difference.
4. Do your own Ruqyah before going to anyone else
You are not helpless. Allah has already given you the tools you need. Recite over yourself with sincerity:
• Surah Al-Fatiha
• Ayat al-Kursi
• The last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah
• Surah Al-Ikhlās, Al-Falaq, and An-Nās
Blow over yourself, your water, or olive oil, and use it consistently.
Be very cautious about going to Ruqyah practitioners.
Not everyone is sincere. Some may mix truth with falsehood, work with jinn, or use practices rooted in magic. Never accept ta’weez (amulets), strange rituals, or anything unclear.
If you absolutely cannot do Ruqyah yourself due to severe illness or weakness, make du‘ā and ask Allah to guide you to someone sincere, pure, and upon the Sunnah — someone who does not ask for strange information or ask you to do anything harām or confusing.
5. Give regular sadaqah
Charity is a shield. It removes spiritual blockages and invites mercy.
6. Protect your privacy
Do not overshare. Even well-meaning people can unintentionally harm you with their gaze or words. Keep your joy, growth, and goals sacred.
7. Make this du‘ā regularly:
“O Allah, protect me from the evil of every envious one, seen and unseen. Shield me with Your mercy, cover me with Your light, and guard my heart, my health, and my soul.”
Your exhaustion is not always emotional
Your confusion is not always overthinking
Your heaviness is not always laziness
Sometimes, it’s spiritual
Sometimes, it’s the evil eye
And often, it’s coming from the one you least expect
Protect your peace
Protect your soul
And let Allah be your shield and sanctuary
Nothing and no one is more powerful than Him
