The Restlessness That Love Creates ﷺ

There is a kind of longing that only love creates.

The more you send blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, the more your heart becomes tranquil. There is a sweetness in remembering him. A comfort in mentioning his name. A serenity that settles over the soul.

And yet, something else begins to happen.

You realise that while your heart is at peace, there is also a restlessness within you. A longing. A yearning. A desire that cannot be fulfilled by this world.

You begin to miss someone you have never met.

You hear about his gentleness and wish you could have sat in his company.

You learn about his mercy and wonder what it would have felt like to be comforted by his words.

You read about his smile and find yourself imagining what it would have been like to look upon his blessed face.

And perhaps many sisters can resonate with this.

We long for understanding.

We long for safety.

We long for gentleness.

We long for a love that does not wound us.

Yet perhaps these longings are reminders that not everything we seek is meant to be found here.

This world was never meant to satisfy every desire of the heart.

Perhaps that is why Allah placed this yearning within us.

Because some loves are meant to lead us Home.

The companions who saw him with their own eyes would cry after his passing because life no longer felt the same. They had experienced something this world could never replace.

And generations later, here we are.

Women who never walked beside him.

Women who never heard his voice.

Women who never held his hand.

Yet somehow, our hearts ache for him.

How incredible is it that Allah allows love to transcend centuries.

And perhaps your yearning itself is a gift.

Because longing keeps us connected.

It makes us send more blessings upon him.

It makes us want to follow his Sunnah.

It makes us strive to beautify our character.

It makes us hope for the greatest reunion of all.

Many of us spend our lives longing for people who cannot fill the emptiness within us. We imagine that if we could just find the right person, receive enough love, or have our circumstances change, then our hearts would finally be complete.

But there are spaces within the soul that were never created for worldly things to occupy.

There are desires that point towards something eternal.

And perhaps this deep yearning for the Prophet ﷺ is one of them.

So if your heart feels both peaceful and restless, do not be alarmed.

Not all restlessness is anxiety.

Some restlessness is love.

Some longing is mercy.

Some yearning is a sign that your heart remembers where it truly belongs.

And perhaps one day, by the infinite mercy of Allah, the longing will finally end.

Not because we stopped loving him.

But because we will finally be in his presence.

And what a beautiful meeting that will be ﷺ.
