The One Who Understands You Completely
There is something deeply human about wanting someone to truly understand you.
Not just hear your words.
Not just see that you are struggling.
Not just listen while you explain what happened.
You want them to understand what you meant.
Why it hurt.
Why you reacted the way you did.
What you were feeling beneath your words.
What you were trying to say when you could not find the right words.
You want someone to look at you and somehow understand the parts of you that you struggle to explain.
And sometimes, you can spend hours explaining yourself to someone and still walk away thinking,
“You still don’t understand me.”
Because there is a limit to human understanding.
Even the people who love us deeply can only know us to a certain extent.
They were not inside your heart when something happened.
They did not experience your childhood exactly as you did.
They do not know every thought that passed through your mind.
They cannot feel the exact weight of what you are carrying.
They hear what you tell them, but there are things you cannot articulate.
There are emotions you do not even understand yourself.
There are moments when you say, “I don’t know why I feel like this.”
There are times when you are upset but cannot explain why.
Times when you need space but cannot explain what is happening inside you.
Times when you desperately want someone to understand you, yet you do not even have the words to help them understand.
And this is where your relationship with Allah becomes so incredibly comforting.
Because Allah does not need an explanation.
He already knows.
He knows what you are going through.
He knows what happened.
He knows what you meant.
He knows what you wanted to say.
He knows the thoughts you never voiced.
He knows the tears you wiped away before anyone saw them.
He knows the conversations you have had inside your own head.
He knows the fears you cannot admit.
He knows the things you are trying to make sense of.
He knows the parts of your story that nobody else knows.
And perhaps most beautifully of all,
Allah understands you better than you understand yourself.
Think about that.
Sometimes you are sitting there wondering,
“What is wrong with me?”
“Why am I feeling like this?”
“Why can’t I just move on?”
“Why does this bother me so much?”
“Why do I keep thinking about this?”
“Why am I so confused?”
And while you are still trying to understand yourself, Allah already knows.
He knows the root.
He knows the reason.
He knows the wound.
He knows the longing.
He knows what you need.
He knows what you are becoming.
He knows what you cannot yet see.
You may not understand why something is happening in your life, but Allah does.
You may not understand why your heart feels heavy, but Allah does.
You may not understand why a particular door closed, why something ended, why you are being tested in a particular way, or why your journey has unfolded differently from what you imagined.
But Allah knows.
And there is something incredibly peaceful about knowing that.
Because sometimes healing does not begin with having all the answers.
Sometimes healing begins with knowing Who already knows the answers.
This is why I emphasise building a relationship with Allah so much.
Not simply praying because you have to.
Not simply making du’ā because you need something.
Not simply reading Qur’ān because it is part of your routine.
But actually developing a relationship with Allah where you know,
“Allah knows me.”
He knows me when I am strong.
He knows me when I am falling apart.
He knows me when I am grateful.
He knows me when I am angry.
He knows me when I am confused.
He knows me when I am trying.
He knows me when I fail.
He knows me when I cannot even explain what is happening inside of me.
And I can turn to Him exactly as I am.
You do not have to present a perfectly organised version of yourself to Allah.
You do not have to have the right words.
You do not have to understand everything before you turn to Him.
You can simply sit with Him and say,
“Allah, I do not even know what is happening inside me right now, but You know.”
And perhaps that is enough for today.
Perhaps you have been trying so hard to make people understand you.
Trying to explain your intentions.
Trying to convince someone that your heart was in the right place.
Trying to make someone understand why something affected you so deeply.
Trying to get someone to see what you see.
And maybe there comes a point where you gently realise,
“They may never fully understand me, and that is okay.”
Not because your feelings do not matter.
Not because you should stop communicating.
Not because healthy relationships do not require understanding.
But because you stop expecting another human being to possess an understanding that only Allah can have.
People have limitations.
Allah does not.
People misunderstand.
Allah does not.
People may forget what you told them.
Allah does not.
People may only see your behaviour.
Allah knows what was happening within you.
People may judge the chapter they witnessed.
Allah knows the entire story.
And when you truly internalise this, something begins to change inside you.
You become less desperate to be understood by everyone.
You become less dependent on someone’s validation of your experience.
You stop needing every person to agree with your version of what happened.
You become more comfortable saying,
“Allah knows.”
They may not know why I made that decision.
Allah knows.
They may not know how much that hurt me.
Allah knows.
They may not understand how hard I am trying.
Allah knows.
They may think I am okay because I smiled.
Allah knows what is happening inside me.
They may never know the whole story.
Allah does.
And there is a beautiful kind of freedom in that.
Because ultimately, you are not misunderstood by Allah.
You are fully known by Him.
Even the parts of yourself you are still discovering.
Even the feelings you cannot name.
Even the contradictions you carry.
Even the things you wish were different about yourself.
Allah knows you completely.
And yet He invites you to turn towards Him.
So when you feel that ache of,
“I just wish someone understood me.”
Let that feeling become a doorway.
Turn towards Allah.
Talk to Him.
Make your heart known to Him, even though He already knows it.
Sit quietly with Him.
Tell Him what you cannot tell anyone else.
And remind yourself,
I may not be understood by everyone, but I am completely known by Allah.
And sometimes, knowing that the One who created your heart understands everything inside it is enough to make the heart exhale.
You do not have to figure everything out today.
You do not have to understand yourself completely today.
You do not have to have every answer.
Allah already knows.
And perhaps your peace is not going to come from finally understanding everything.
Perhaps it will come from learning to trust the One who already does.
Build that relationship with Allah.
Because when you know that you are deeply known by the One who created you, you no longer have to spend your entire life desperately searching for someone who can understand every part of you.
You can breathe.
You can surrender.
You can say,
“Allah knows.”
And let that be enough.
