The Gift of Today
I want to share something that has been on my heart. Often, I see women carrying burdens that no one else can see. Some are constantly anxious about the future, thinking about all the “what ifs” and planning for things that may never happen. You might be sitting there, worried about a conversation, a decision, a marriage, or your children. Your mind races with scenarios of what could go wrong, and it steals the peace that Allah intended for your heart today.
Others are weighed down by the past. Memories of pain, heartbreak, mistakes, or loss replay in their minds like a never-ending loop. The sorrow of yesterday lingers, and even when nothing is wrong in the present, it feels heavy. You may think that if you just keep thinking about it, you’ll somehow prevent it from happening again or finally make sense of it, but in reality, it keeps you from fully embracing the blessings that exist right now.
And then there are a few women who truly understand the power of the present. They are not perfect, and they are not free from struggles, but they have learned to pause and breathe, to remind themselves that Allah has given them today as a gift. They smile at their children, they take time for themselves, they make du’a, and they are grateful for even the smallest moments — the cup of tea in the quiet morning, the soft sunlight through the window, the smile of a friend.
Living in the present does not mean ignoring your past or pretending the future will be perfect. It means giving your heart permission to rest in this moment, to trust Allah with what has passed and what is yet to come. It means saying to yourself, “Right now, I am safe. Right now, I am alive. Right now, I am blessed.”
Think about the last time you were fully present. Maybe it was while making wudhu and feeling the cool water on your hands. Maybe it was when your child hugged you without asking for anything. Maybe it was during a moment of sincere du’a when you felt close to Allah. These moments are small, but they are priceless.
Sisters, I encourage you to pause today. Take a deep breath. Feel your heartbeat. Feel the air around you. Let go of yesterday and do not carry the weight of tomorrow on your shoulders. Today is here. Today is enough. And when you allow yourself to live fully in this present, you begin to notice the subtle ways Allah is showering you with mercy, love, and ease.
Let us remind each other gently that happiness is not hidden somewhere far away. It is in this moment, waiting for us to notice.
