Perfection is a deception of Shaytaan
One of the most subtle and dangerous traps of Shaytaan is convincing us that we need to be perfect. That we must speak perfectly, pray perfectly, parent perfectly, look perfect, act perfect, be the perfect Muslim, the perfect daughter, the perfect wife, the perfect daughter-in-law, the perfect friend, the perfect human being. And if we fall short in any of these roles, we convince ourselves we are failing. But this is a lie. A harmful and exhausting lie.
Perfection belongs to Allah alone. He is Al-Kaamil, the Most Perfect. He does not expect us to be flawless. He expects us to be sincere. To turn to Him with our shortcomings, to keep trying, and to carry hearts full of humility rather than actions full of pride.
The moment we begin to chase perfection, we lose sight of who we are doing things for. Instead of seeking closeness to Allah, we become absorbed in the performance. Obsessed with the result. Anxious about whether we measured up. Focused on appearances, outcomes, and impressions. And in doing so, we miss the essence. We miss the feeling.
We cannot connect to Allah through perfection. That path does not lead to Him. Because perfection is not what He wants from us. Presence is. He wants broken hearts turned towards Him. He wants our efforts laced with sincerity. He wants us to acknowledge our limits and lean on His limitless mercy.
When you embrace your humanity, your flaws, your weaknesses, you begin to understand what it means to truly rely on Allah. That is where the connection deepens. In the tears, the stumbles, the late-night du‘ā whispered in pain, the sujūd made not out of excellence, but out of desperation. That is where nearness to Him is found.
So hand back the cape of perfection to the One it rightfully belongs to — ALLAH. Free yourself from the trap of the devil. You were not created to impress the world. You were created to remember your Lord.
Seek Him not with the polished parts of you, but with all that is real. All that is raw. All that is struggling. He sees it all. He loves the effort. And He draws near to those who come to Him with hearts that are humble, honest and hopeful.
May Allah protect us from the deception of Shaytaan and guide us back to the simplicity and sincerity of just being His servant. Imperfect, but always striving.
