Our relationship with Allah is the most simple relationship

Our relationship with Allah is the most beautifully simple relationship we will ever know. Yet, how often do we complicate it? How often do we carry the false belief that we need to be perfect before turning to Him? That we need to have everything in order, or be in a constant state of spiritual productivity, before we can build a connection with our Creator?

The truth is far from that.

Unlike our relationships with people, which require explanations, emotional labour, and mutual effort to be sustained, our relationship with Allah is not built on what we do, but on who He is. He is Ar-Rahmān, the Most Merciful. He is Al-Wadūd, the Most Loving. He is Al-‘Alīm, the All-Knowing. He already knows us better than we know ourselves. He knew our pain before we even had the words to express it. He knew our sincerity before anyone else could recognise it. He knew our struggles in silence, our whispered prayers, our confusion, and our longing, all without us ever needing to explain.

With people, we are constantly trying to be understood. Constantly explaining ourselves, justifying our feelings, fearing rejection, guarding our hearts. But with Allah, there is no need to perform. There is no fear of being misunderstood. He sees the heart in its rawest form and accepts it.

You do not need to fix yourself before speaking to Allah. You do not need grand gestures or eloquent words. You do not need a perfect past or a plan for a perfect future. You simply need to show up. As you are. With your truth. With your mess. With your hope.

That is the ease of this divine relationship. It does not demand that you become someone else. It invites you to become more yourself, the version of you that was always known by Allah. The version of you that was created in love, with purpose, and with divine care.

The Qur’an says, “And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein.” This closeness is not something we earn. It is a reality we awaken to. It is a nearness that exists regardless of our awareness. It is a love that never disappears even when we are drowning in our own absence.

So let your relationship with Allah be real. Let it be raw. Let it be honest. Let it be yours. You do not need to follow anyone else’s path. You do not need to make it look a certain way. You just need to turn to Him. Often. Gently. Sincerely.

Speak to Him in your own words. Sit in silence and just be. Cry when you need to, or smile in gratitude. Walk with Him in your heart through every moment of your day. And when you forget, simply remember again. There is no guilt in forgetting, only mercy in returning.

Because with Allah, it was never about perfection.

It was always about presence. About turning back. About being real. And about knowing that you are already known and already loved, just as you are.
