Finding True Worth: The Journey of the Heart
Do not hate yourself. You were created by Allah through His divine love, wisdom and will. You are not a mistake, and you are not worthless. You were shaped by the One who makes no errors, the One who never creates in vain.
In a world that constantly tells us our worth lies in how we look, what we own, or how others perceive us, it is easy to forget the truth. But Allah never asked us to chase perfection in appearance or status. He told us clearly: “Indeed, Allah does not look at your bodies nor your appearances, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds.” (Muslim)
The world often values the superficial. Beauty fades. Fame disappears. Wealth comes and goes. And status can be stripped in an instant. But your heart, your sincerity, and your inner state are what truly matter in the sight of your Lord.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was not honoured by the world for riches or power. He was an orphan, he faced poverty, he was mocked and opposed. Yet he is the most beloved to Allah, the most honoured of all creation. What made him so? His heart. His purity. His love for Allah and his unshakable trust in Him.
So do not let anyone define your worth by your looks, your background or your worldly struggles. Let your worth be defined by the state of your heart and your connection with Allah.
True beauty is not found in the mirror. It is found in the one who stands before Allah in prayer when no one is watching. It is found in the lips that whisper SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar, La Ilaha Ilallah or Astaghfirullah. It is found in the soul that returns again and again to its Creator, even after falling.
Keep purifying your heart. Keep seeking Him. Repent often. Remember Allah frequently. Send Salawāt upon the Prophet ﷺ with love. These are the acts that beautify the heart and elevate the soul.
Because in the end, it is not how the world sees you that matters. It is how you return to the One who created you.
And the one who returns with a heart refined by tawbah, dhikr and sincerity will find what they were always searching for: peace, love, and closeness to Allah that never ends.
You are not your face. You are not your past. You are your heart. Keep it turning towards Allah.
