Who Sits at the Centre of Your Heart?
Who have you truly made your Allah? What have you allowed to sit at the centre of your heart?
Sometimes, it’s not a physical object we bow to, but the hidden attachments we place above our Lord. It could be a person, a relationship, a desire for recognition, wealth, status, or even our own self-image. These things quietly take root in our hearts, often without us realising. And slowly, they begin to consume us from within.
We say “Allah is my Lord,” but we only turn to Him when we’re pleading for the very things we’ve placed before Him. The job. The marriage. The wealth. The approval of people. And when those things fail us or slip through our fingers, we feel empty and disconnected.
But the truth is: when something other than Allah occupies the throne of your heart, it clouds your connection with Him. It becomes harder to feel His nearness, to hear His guidance, to trust in His mercy. The heart becomes torn between the Creator and the creation.
Allah, in His mercy, tells us that He forgives all sins except for shirk—associating partners with Him. While many of us don’t worship idols in the traditional sense, the emotional and spiritual dependence we place on anything other than Allah can easily become an idol of the heart.
This is not to shame you. This is to help you reflect and empower you.
We all have moments where we give too much of our hearts to things that cannot carry the weight of our hopes. But the beauty of our faith is that Allah always gives us a way back. And that way begins with honesty. With asking ourselves, what am I truly worshipping?
If you want peace, if you’re seeking clarity, if you’re yearning for that deep connection with Allah, begin by clearing your heart. Let go of what is not serving your soul. Take back what you’ve unknowingly handed over to the dunya. And make du‘ā. Ask Allah:
“Ya Allah, remove from my heart whatever has taken Your place. Break every idol I’ve built within me. Make my heart a home for You alone.”
When Allah sits on the throne of your heart, everything aligns. You find contentment without attachment. You experience peace, even in uncertainty. You begin to love without neediness. You live freely, because you’ve returned the heart to the One who created it.
Your healing begins with surrender.
Your peace begins when Allah is at the centre of it all.
