The Shortest, Most Powerful Du‘ā

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَافِيَةَ

Allahumma inni as’aluka al-Aafiyah

O Allah, I ask You for well-being.

One day, Sayyidina al-‘Abbas ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib (رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ), the beloved uncle of our Prophet ﷺ, came to him and asked:

“O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, teach me a du‘ā.”

And our Prophet ﷺ, in all his wisdom and gentleness, replied:

“O my uncle, ask Allah for Aafiyah.”

That’s it. So simple. Yet so profound.

What is Aafiyah?

The word Aafiyah is more than just one meaning. It’s a whole world of goodness wrapped in a single, beautiful word.

When you ask Allah for Aafiyah, you are asking Him for:

1.jSafety from any trial or suffering – that He keeps you protected from heartbreak, anxiety, loss, illness, harm, abuse, and anything that would burden your heart or soul

2. Good health – that your body, your mind, and your spirit remain well and whole

3. Sustenance – that your rizq is enough, that your home is peaceful, and that your provisions carry barakah, even if they are small

4. A life worth living – that your days have meaning, your nights are in His remembrance, and your time is filled with presence and purpose

5. Divine protection – that Allah surrounds you with His mercy, shelters you from harm, and keeps you under His shade when no other shade exists

6. Forgiveness – that you are saved from the consequences of sin and that your heart is cleansed of guilt and burden

7. Goodness in this world and the next – that you taste the sweetness of imaan here, and are granted His closeness forever in Jannah

So when you say اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَافِيَةَ, you’re not just asking for ease.

You are asking for a life wrapped in Allah’s gentleness. A heart that is at peace. A soul that is content. A path that is safe. A destination that is eternal.

Why This Du‘ā is So Special

Sometimes we think the more complex the du‘ā, the more likely it is to be accepted.

But here, Rasulullah ﷺ chose one word. A word that gathers within it everything your heart is yearning for. A word that protects your deen, your dunya, and your aakhirah.

We don’t always know what to ask for.

We don’t always understand what’s coming or what we’re being protected from.

But when you ask for Aafiyah, you’re asking Allah to choose for you, the best, the kindest, the most beautiful outcome, even if you cannot see it yet.

Maybe life has been heavy lately.

Maybe you’ve experienced loss, betrayal, hardship, or just the quiet ache of not feeling okay.

Let this du‘ā be a whisper from your heart to the One who hears every silent plea.

Say it with love. Say it with trust. Say it every day, in every sujood:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَافِيَةَ

O Allah, I ask You for Aafiyah.

Because in Aafiyah, is everything your heart needs.

And in turning to Allah, is the beginning of every healing.

May Allah gift you with abundant Aafiyah, in your body, your mind, your soul, your relationships, your rizq, your imaan, and your aakhirah. Aameen.
