Softening the Heart and Strengthening the Connection
Now that we’ve spoken about why we struggle with obedience and how to begin making it lighter, let’s gently take it a step further.
Sometimes the heart just needs a quiet moment. A space to pause, to reflect, and to ask itself the deeper questions. That’s what this post is for. A chance to reconnect with yourself and your Rabb, to untangle some of the inner thoughts and gently guide them back to clarity and peace, In Sha Allah.
When we bring our thoughts to paper and sit with them in the presence of Allah, something begins to shift. So below are a few journaling prompts and gentle heart reflections to help you reconnect with Allah in a way that is honest and kind.
Take your time. Sit with these in the quiet. Let them open the doors inside you.
1. What does obedience to Allah feel like for me right now?
Be honest. Is it light, heavy, distant, confusing, inconsistent? Try to name it gently without judgment.
2. How do I currently view Allah?
Do I see Him as loving and merciful? Or mostly angry and distant? What formed this perception? Does it come from Qur’an, culture, people, or past experiences?
3. What do I truly believe about the commands I’m struggling with?
Ask yourself:
• Do I think hijab limits me or honours me?
• Do I see Salaah as a gift or a duty?
• Do I feel like giving up this habit will take away my joy or give me peace?
Your beliefs shape your actions. Be honest with what’s beneath the surface.
4. Who am I learning about Allah from?
• Do the people I learn from make me love Allah more?
• Do they leave me hopeful, or do I walk away feeling unworthy and burdened?
• Do I need to be more mindful of where I get my reminders from?
5. When was the last time I felt close to Allah?
Write about a moment where your heart felt soft, present, and connected to Him. What was different about that time? What helped you feel close?
Now, gently ask yourself:
• What is one thing I can do this week to draw closer to Allah?
Maybe it’s being more mindful in one Salaah. Maybe it’s choosing better reminders. Maybe it’s wearing your hijab with the intention to please Him even on a difficult day. Keep it small. Keep it sincere.
“O Allah, open my heart to You. Make obedience feel light and beloved to me. Help me to know You as You truly are – full of mercy, wisdom, and love. Let me always walk towards You, even in my struggles.”
This journey is not about being perfect. It’s about knowing who your Rabb is, trusting His wisdom, and walking slowly but sincerely towards Him. Even in your hardest moments, even when you fall, remember this: Allah sees the effort, not just the outcome.
And sometimes the biggest shift begins with simply sitting down with yourself, pen in hand, heart open.
May Allah guide every word you write and fill your heart with clarity, courage, and closeness to Him.
