A Powerful Du’ā for Every Woman’s Heart

There is a beautiful, powerful du‘ā that the Prophet ﷺ used to say, and he taught it to his companions so they could protect themselves from the most painful struggles of this life.

He ﷺ said:

Transliteration:

Allahumma inni a‘ūdhu bika min al-hammi wal-huzni, wa a‘ūdhu bika min al-‘ajzi wal-kasali, wa a‘ūdhu bika min al-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a‘ūdhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijāl.

Translation:

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, and I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice and miserliness, and I seek refuge in You from being overcome by debt and from the oppression of men.

Narrated Anas ibn Malik رضي الله عنه:

The Prophet used to say this du‘ā often. (Bukhari and Muslim)

We should hold this du‘ā close to our hearts because every word of it speaks directly to the burdens we silently carry.

Worry and Grief (الهم والحزن):

How many of us lie awake at night with worries about our families, our children, our marriages, our futures? How often do we hold grief in our hearts over what has been lost, broken, or unfulfilled?

This du‘ā is permission to hand over our worries to Allah. To say: Ya Allah, I cannot carry this alone.

Incapacity and Laziness (العجز والكسل):

As women, we are expected to do so much. But there are days when the exhaustion is soul-deep, when we feel paralysed by overwhelm or drained of motivation.

This du‘ā is a plea: Ya Allah, give me strength and energy. Help me do what needs to be done. Make me capable.

Cowardice and Miserliness (الجبن والبخل):

Fear often silences us. It can make us hold back from speaking the truth, standing up for ourselves, or protecting our loved ones. Miserliness is not only about money. It is about withholding love, forgiveness, care, or time.

This du‘ā is a reminder: Ya Allah, make me brave. Make me generous with all that truly matters.

Being Overcome by Debt (غلبة الدين):

Financial stress is one of the heaviest burdens a woman can carry, whether it is her own debt, her family’s, or worry about making ends meet.

This du‘ā is protection: Ya Allah, grant me halaal, blessed provision. Ease my debts. Free my heart from this weight.

Oppression of Men (قهر الرجال):

Many women know too well what it means to be overpowered, silenced, or controlled. Whether it is in marriage, family, workplace, or society.

This du‘ā is liberation: Ya Allah, protect me from anyone who would harm me, diminish me, or take away my dignity.

This is not just a prayer. It is a shield.

It is a holistic protection for the heart, the mind, the body, the soul. It acknowledges the hidden struggles that women face, often in silence.

It is so profound that the Prophet ﷺ used to say it often.

He ﷺ knew how heavy life can be. He taught us this du‘ā to lighten our load, to strengthen our hearts, to remind us that Allah is the One who can lift us out of any hardship.

This du‘ā is often included in daily supplications and morning adhkār collections.

Make this du‘ā your daily companion. Recite it when you feel overwhelmed. Teach it to your daughters, your friends, your sisters.

Let it be your reminder that you do not have to carry any of this alone.

Ya Allah, we seek Your refuge from every burden that breaks us. Grant us strength, courage, ease, and protection.

I encourage you to read the morning adhkār every day for protection. They contain beneficial du‘ās that shape our day, improve our interactions, bring peace to the heart, strengthen our connection with Allah, guard us from harm, increase barakah in our time and efforts, calm anxiety, and have a powerful impact on every part of our lives.
